Lyrics:
February 4 1839
1. Dear Joseph I can feel your despair
Soon I'll be by your side with honor and love
Dear Joseph I offer a prayer
That passed our tribulation again we'll be one
CHORUS: So often you've asked me that you may know for sure
The perils we've passed through can we both endure
So unto you dearest this answer I give
Lo I'm with you always unto this end I'll live
2. Dear Joseph my husband my head
You've been called by our King God's prophet you are
Dear Joseph I'll follow where led
And to our Master I'll give thanks for His mercy above
CHORUS
3. Dear Joseph we're bound in His name
United and tied by the promise divine
Love,
Emma your bride

Story:
"Letter From Emma (To This End I'll Live)" (Fall 2007)
Emma Smith is a controversial figure in Church history, but an amazing woman in anyone's book. Lyricist Joe Olivas wrote this piece of poetry to try and clue us in on Emma's thought process while Joseph was in Liberty Jail (hence the date introduction). The song is a mournful yet comforting passage to Joseph, letting him know he really isn't alone. I can't imagine how hard it was for him during those months, but it must have been even worse for her. We owe Emma so much more credit, and Joe and I hope we do her emotions justice.
